Breakfast and Utility Extension

Completed Spring 2016

A

Our clients had a need for the addition of a utility room and shower room to the Ground Floor of their property. They also wanted to create a breakfast space, and improve the outlook from the existing dining room. A key design constraint was the requirement to maintain the view through to the garden from the lounge, through the hallway and kitchen.

Our design solution was to create two extensions. The first is a contemporary linear extension which shoots into the garden, and houses the utility and shower spaces, together with a new rear entrance door and hallway. Its cedar cladding works to blend the extension into the garden space. The second extension is more traditional in nature, and provides a light and airy breakfast space, connecting the kitchen, dining room and garden. Both extensions have large amounts of glazing to increase light and views of the garden.

Client- “We commissioned Carve Architecture to design an extension to our home. Both Tim and Kate attended on us at home on several occasions to discuss ideas leading to several drafts of sketches and plans. The final draft was more imaginative than anything we could have produced ourselves, with a design that combined utility with an innovative “wow-factor”. It opened up our dining and kitchen area to a light, versatile space that is modern while respecting the integrity of the original. Throughout the building process Tim provided a value for money project management service, which ensured on-time completion at controlled costs. We have no hesitation in recommending this young, imaginative and very accommodating outfit.”
